Independence Public Library

  The Independence Public Library was inaugurated on December 3, 2009, by Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education and opened its door to the general  Independence public on December 4, 2009.

After several years of lobbying for an Independence Library the Independence Library Committee, the Ministry of Education, and the Belize National Library Service and Information Service has seen the project come to fruition. 

The inauguration ceremonies were held on December 3, 2009. Mrs. Brenda Armstrong, Chairperson of the BNLSIS Board, welcome the gathering to the inauguration of the library while remarks were made by the Hon. Melvin Hulse, Area Representative and Minister of Public Utilities, Transport, and Communications.

Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education was the keynote speaker and the vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Joy Ysaguirre, Chief Librarian. The Independence Primary School Dance Group made two presentations, while Mrs. Yvette Ramclam sang the National Anthem; Pastor Simpson did the invocation and the blessing of the building. Mr. Jerome Lozano was the master of Ceremonies. The cutting of the ribbon was done by Minister Patrick Faber along with Mrs. Yolanda Murray and Mr. Finally. The collection can accommodate the basic informational, technological, recreational, and educational needs of the community. Summer programs, homework help, and special activities throughout the year.
