Santa Elena Public Library

The dream of several concerned citizens of the town of Santa Elena became a reality on the 9th of March, 1997 when our twin town became the proud possessor of a brand-new library. Since the town was expanding, the need for a library became a priority, as the educational needs of our people needed to be met. In the month of November 1997, the library opened its doors to the people of our community. Since then the services have accelerated and great strides have been made.

Countless books have been obtained to help students with homework and research. Some books were bought, but most of them were donations from kind people at home and abroad. Some ten computers were donated through the courtesy of Minister Daniel Silva, and another four by Minister Cordel Hyde. Work on the upper flat started in September 2002, and on January 8th, 2003 the upper flat was inaugurated by the Hon. Prime Minister, Mr. Said Musa. Several other dignitaries were present, including Mrs. Joy Ysaguirre, Chief Librarian, and our supervisors. The upper flat has enabled us to have more space in which to carry out many more activities geared to help in the education and recreation of all. Classes, workshops, and other activities have been held in the upper flat since 2003.
