In 2008 the Lake Independence Library became fully equipped and operational with a full-time Library Assistant, Ms. Dorlene Lewis.
In 2010, two innovations at the Lake I Library were instituted by Rotary International and the BNLSIS. The first was the teaching of Math and English to 14 adults. The second was an Open Microphone night to allow members of the community to voice their opinions and hold discussions in an open forum.
Although all branch libraries are housed in purpose-designed buildings, Lake I is the exception which shares accommodation in a community center.
